Cranio - what? EsScential - who?

Have you ever looked at a spa menu and been overwhelmed at all the options and not

know what to choose? Me too.

Confused lady: which massage to choose?

Here is a little breakdown of the different types of Massage Therapy offered at Pasithea's Garden Spa.

What is Craniosacral Therapy?

Per the Upledger Institute: CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of the craniosacral system. The craniosacral system is the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. Therapists trained in CST use a very light touch, usually no more than the

weight of a nickel, to release restrictions in the craniosacral system. This has been shown to improve the functioning of the central nervous system, as well as many other systems of the body, such as digestive, musculoskeletal, respiratory, circulatory, and more.

Craniosacral Therapy can help with headaches, TMJ, and has also been shown to help with the physical components related to such somatic conditions as Post Traumatic Stress, depression and anxiety.

Clients tell us that it is immensely relaxing and rejuvenating! Jennifer is now trained in CST and is offering it at the studio.

What is a Swedish Massage?

Within the world of massage therapy, you may have noticed that there are many different types of massage. Each one is designed to benefit the recipient in unique ways. These different types are called "modalities". Swedish massage is one of the most common massage modalities.

Often referred to as relaxation massage or maintenance massage, Swedish massage works mostly with the superficial tissues of the body. While it doesn't focus on the deeper muscles of the body, it can still have a deep overall effect on the body through relaxation and stress relief, enhancing circulation, increasing lymphatic system function, and improved range of motion in the joints.

Swedish massage includes a combination of strokes: long gliding strokes (called effleurage); kneading (petrissage); tapotement (percussion); and friction. The pressure can be as light or as firm as the client wishes (and the therapist is able to perform!) Don't underestimate the power of relaxation in a Swedish massage; I've heard that a one hour relaxation massage is equal to three days of recovery time for your muscles!
